As a DJ, photojournalist, visual artist, and Hit + Run crew member, Azul has quite the interesting background. Born in Brooklyn, raised in the Bronx, and currently residing in in Boyle Heights, Azul developed national acclaim through his soulful DJ sets, as well as his published photo work. Musically, his performances reflect this varied upbringing and experience, and regularly run the gamut from Latin dance classics to hip-hop, house, Afro beat, and electro.
Azul has been a resident and guest at some of LA’s most popular “good music” nights such as Firecracker, Bridges, Descarga, and The Do-Over. He has Hosted, played alongside, and taken flicks for a wide range of artists including: Snoop Dogg, Common, Talib Kweli, Questlove, Maceo, Afrika Bambaataa, Kool Herc, Jazzy Jay, Egyptian Lover, Arabian Prince, Cut Chemist, Madlib, Kenny Dope, Diamond D, Z Trip, The Beat Junkies, 9th Wonder, Dj Spinna, Garth Trinidad, Peanut Butter Wolf, John Arnold, Prefuse 73, Nobody, Daedelus, John Beltran, Daz-I-Kue, Paul Seiji Dolby, N'Dea Davenport, Ozomotli, Quetzal, Jurassic 5 and The Black Eyed Pea's.
Azul is also the Creator of the Peace Photo Project started 7 yrs ago to Raise Awareness about the on going wars. Started as "Peace in IRAQ" project , it Quickly moved to the "PEACE" project to fully respect the other conflicts around the world.
After 13 shows that span from San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Puerto Rico, and have included local Universities, Charter Schools, and unique Los Angeles dance spots, the PEACE project includes 5,000 photographs. The PEACE project has received write ups in URB magazine, Working Class magazine, and a television appearances for USC Campus TV.
As Program Manager at Grand Park, Azul looks forward to continue bringing quality music, art, and events to the city of Los Angeles .
